Ruben Amorim firmly confirmed that after Manchester United’s 1-1 draw at Leeds, he will not resign and will continue serving as both manager and head coach according to the 18-month agreement.
On 4 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Ruben Amorim, Manchester United manager, clearly stated he will not resign and will continue his roles as both manager and head coach under the club’s agreement, following the Premier League game where the Red Devils drew 1-1 away at Leeds United.
The Portuguese coach said he came to Old Trafford to take on the full role of manager, not just head coach as some have misunderstood, and stressed that this agreement has an 18-month timeframe before moving to the next stage.
“I will not resign. I will carry out both the manager and head coach roles,” Amorim said.
“I came here to be the Manchester United manager, not merely the head coach. This will conclude within 18 months, then everyone will move forward. That is the agreement, and that is my duty.”
Amorim also admitted he is not a superstar manager like Thomas Tuchel, Antonio Conte, or Jose Mourinho, but affirmed that his role and authority have been clear from day one.
“I know my name is not Tuchel, not Conte, and not Mourinho, but I am the Manchester United manager, and it will remain so for the next 18 months or until the board decides otherwise.”
Furthermore, Amorim emphasized the club’s internal structure, stating that everyone must take responsibility in their roles, whether scouts or sporting directors, while he will focus on his own role until the contract ends or the management makes a change.
“I will continue my duties until someone else replaces me,” Amorim concluded.
