"The Reds" Liverpool are reportedly preparing to sack Arne Slot from his position as manager and have already targeted a new coach.
On 6 Jan 2025 GMT+7, Fichajes, a prominent Spanish media outlet, reported that "The Reds" Liverpool, a Premier League giant, plan to dismiss Arne Slot as manager within this week following the team's disappointing performance in the English Premier League this season.
Currently, Liverpool stands 4th in the Premier League with 34 points but trails league leaders "The Gunners" Arsenal by 14 points. Their chances of defending the title are extremely slim. Moreover, some fans have grown impatient and are calling for Slot’s dismissal to find a replacement who can improve the team's fortunes.
The latest reports from Spanish media claim Liverpool has already decided to sack Slot within this week and has begun the process of searching for a new manager, with former midfielder and captain Steven Gerrard among the top candidates.
The club believes Gerrard’s leadership qualities, along with his experience as a player and coach, make him well-suited for this major role.
Gerrard, who led Glasgow Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020-21 season, has been without a managerial job since parting ways with Al-Ittifaq, a Saudi Arabian league club, last year. He is reportedly ready to take over Liverpool on a short-term basis at least until the end of this season.
Additionally, besides Gerrard, former Liverpool great manager Jürgen Klopp is also rumored to be linked with a possible return to Anfield if Slot is ultimately dismissed.
