Pep Voices Frustration After Man City Draws Three Consecutive Matches, Misses Chance to Close Gap on Arsenal in Premier League Title Race

"Pep" expressed his frustration after Man City drew three consecutive matches, missing the chance to catch Arsenal and unsettling the Premier League title race.

On 8 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Pep Guardiola, manager of Manchester City, spoke after the English Premier League match where his team drew 1-1 at home against Brighton & Hove Albion, despite dominating the game.

In this match, Man City held 60 percent possession, had 22 shots with only 6 on target, and scored just once from an Erling Haaland penalty in the 41st minute before Brighton, with only 6 shots, equalized through Kaoru Mitoma in the 60th minute.

After this game, Man City drew their third match in a row, reaching 43 points and remaining second in the table, missing the chance to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal who have 48 points and are still to play Liverpool tonight; if Arsenal wins, their lead over the "Citizens" will extend to 8 points.

Pep Guardiola commented on Man City's three consecutive draws against Brighton, saying, "I am very satisfied with our performance. We missed many chances. You have to score goals, but we couldn’t."

"We just failed to score. Sometimes we do, sometimes we don’t. We have to keep trying."

The Man City manager also spoke about the performance of 20-year-old defender Max Allen, recalled from his loan at Watford to cover for injured defenders (Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, John Stones), saying, "The problem is not in defense. We are missing several players, but the problem is not defensive."

Regarding Man City's chances of winning the Premier League, Pep said, "We haven’t won in three games; it’s harder now to win the league. We will keep trying."
