A prominent Cambodian league team showcased a lavish training center following the arrest of their main sponsor Chen Zhu on charges of fraud and money laundering.
On 8 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Chen Zhu, a powerful Chinese-Cambodian billionaire and founder of Prince Holding Group, one of Cambodia's largest companies, was arrested by Cambodian authorities. He is considered a key figure in a massive cryptocurrency scam worth trillions and linked to the captivity of human trafficking victims in forced labor camps. He has been extradited back to China as a cross-border fugitive.
Recently, Visakha Football Club, a prominent Cambodian team sponsored mainly by Chen Zhu, unveiled a modern football training center designed specifically for both their senior and academy teams.
The facility includes four training fields: three natural grass pitches and one artificial turf field. It offers full amenities such as the Visakha Store, fitness room, cafeteria, kitchen, head coach's office, referees' room, locker rooms, medical room, massage room, game analysis room, recreation room, meditation room, gym, and athlete accommodations.
Chen Zhu was charged in absentia by the court with conspiracy to commit electronic network fraud and money laundering. He and unnamed accomplices allegedly exploited forced labor to deceive investors, using the illicit funds to purchase yachts, private jets, and Picasso paintings.
Currently, Visakha ranks 7th in the 2025-26 Cambodian Premier League after 14 matches with 18 points. The club has twice been league runner-up, in 2019 and 2022.
