Diogo Dalot opens up after Manchester United's defeat to Brighton, resulting in elimination from the FA Cup third round.
Diogo Dalot, the full-back of the "Red Devils" Manchester United, stated that his team did not deserve to lose 1-2 at home to Brighton in the FA Cup third round because they created enough chances to win. However, a young player’s red card became a crucial turning point, putting the team at a disadvantage and ending their chances of a comeback.
In this match, Brighton took the lead 1-0 in the first half through Bryan Gruda. Then in the 64th minute, Brighton extended their lead to 2-0 with a goal from Danny Welbeck. Although Benjamin Sesko headed a goal for Man Utd to narrow the score to 1-2 and they pushed forward aggressively, Red Devils' young player Che Lesi received a second yellow card, resulting in a red in the 89th minute for throwing the ball on the ground. This left Man Utd with a numerical disadvantage and they ultimately lost.
Dalot said, “To be honest, we created enough chances to win this game, but the red card put us at a disadvantage because we were superior and pressing Brighton strongly towards the end.”
“Overall, it’s very disappointing because we wanted to advance. Every player tried to find space. As I said, it’s very disappointing because I believe we deserved to win.”
Speaking about the situation after the managerial change, he added, “It’s really tough. It’s a time when we have to quickly find solutions. We have to adapt and keep moving forward.”
