Liverpool or Manchester City: 'Gehe' has secured a new team, with an agreement finalized and the transfer fee revealed.
On 16 January 2026, BBC Sport, a leading British media outlet, and Fabrizio Romano, a football transfer expert, both reported that Manchester City has reached an agreement to sign Marc Guéhi, the captain and defender of Crystal Palace, a fellow Premier League team.
BBC Sport stated that Manchester City has agreed in principle to sign Marc Guéhi during the January transfer window after intensive negotiations with the 25-year-old England international defender over the past 24 hours, following simultaneous long-term injuries to Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.
As a result, Marc Guéhi is set to join Manchester City on a long-term contract soon. Although personal terms have yet to be officially agreed upon, this is not expected to pose any issues.
Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the news with the phrase 'HERE WE GO!' after Manchester City finalized the deal for Marc Guéhi, with Crystal Palace accepting a £20 million transfer fee. Guéhi becomes the club’s second new signing this window following Antoine Semenyo’s move from Bournemouth.
This deal represents a snub to Liverpool, who had intended to sign Marc Guéhi on a free transfer after his contract expired in June. They missed out during the summer despite agreeing on a £35 million fee, as Crystal Palace pulled out at the last minute due to their inability to find a replacement.
