Man Utd Eyes Signing of Prolific Goal Scorer to Boost Attack

Man Utd eyes signing of "prolific goal scorer" to boost firepower at the club.

The "Red Devils," Manchester United, are reportedly in contention to sign this prolific goal scorer to sharpen their attacking strength.

On 17 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the UK's Express reported that Manchester United, a Premier League giant, is keen to acquire Jean-Philippe Mateta, the French international striker from Crystal Palace, either this month or in the summer transfer window.

Mateta, aged 28, has delivered an impressive performance this season, scoring 10 goals and providing 2 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions for Crystal Palace. He is under contract until 2027.

However, with Crystal Palace's manager Oliver Glasner announcing he will step down after this season and captain Mark Guehi set to transfer to Manchester City, Mateta is considering a move to seek new challenges and improve his chances of making France's final squad for the 2026 World Cup.

In light of this, Manchester United, who are searching for a new forward to compete with Benjamin Sesko, are closely monitoring Mateta's situation and may make an official offer if he decides to leave and wishes to join them.

Besides Manchester United, several Premier League clubs as well as Italian Serie A powerhouse Juventus are also interested in signing Mateta.
