The first team has approached Xabi Alonso to become their manager following rumors linking him with two Premier League clubs.
On 19 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Bild, a leading German media outlet, reported that Xabi Alonso, former Real Madrid manager, has been approached by the first team since becoming available after his dismissal last week.
Xabi Alonso has been linked with several top European clubs interested in appointing him as their new manager, especially Liverpool, his former club as a player, where there are calls for him to replace Jürgen Klopp, as well as Tottenham Hotspur, which may soon part ways with Thomas Frank.
However, Bild revealed that Eintracht Frankfurt is the first team to contact Xabi Alonso after sacking Dino Toppmöller due to dissatisfaction with recent performances; the club currently sits seventh in the German Bundesliga.
Sources say Xabi Alonso is negotiating with Frankfurt to return as manager, with the "Red Eagles" executives having inquired about his availability. CEO Markus Krösche is preparing to meet the former Bayer Leverkusen manager, who is currently on a break.
Frankfurt views Xabi Alonso as the most suitable candidate, given his previous success with Bayer Leverkusen, turning them from relegation candidates in the 2022-23 season to undefeated Bundesliga champions in 2023-24, also winning the DFB-Pokal and reaching the Europa League final.
However, it has not been disclosed whether Xabi Alonso will accept or decline Frankfurt's offer; he may be seeking a new challenge after reaching the pinnacle in the Bundesliga, with the English Premier League being a possible next destination.
