Kylian Mbappé Retorts to Real Madrid Fans After Booing Own Players

Kylian Mbappé publicly criticized Real Madrid fans after some players were heavily booed, saying that if they are unhappy with the performance, they should boo the entire team.

On 19 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Kylian Mbappé, the star forward of Real Madrid, spoke out against the behavior of some fans after loud boos were directed at certain players during Real Madrid's 2-0 home win over Levante at Santiago Bernabéu Stadium last weekend.

Although the team secured the expected victory, the atmosphere in the stadium was tense, with boos aimed at several players and club president Florentino Pérez, particularly targeting Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham, and Federico Valverde, who were seen as a group with issues involving former coach Xabi Alonso.

Before Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League match against AS Monaco, Mbappé spoke to the media about the incident, acknowledging fans' emotions but disagreeing with singling out individual players for blame.

“The boos... I understand them. I really do. Before becoming a footballer, I was a fan myself. When the team plays poorly, I complain, I boo,” Mbappé said.

“But what I don’t like is that if you’re going to boo, you should boo the entire team, not just one person. We are underperforming as a team and must fix it together on the pitch.”

The French international further emphasized that he does not see Real Madrid fans as opposing the team but rather expressing anger stemming from high expectations.

“I don’t think the fans are against us. They are just unhappy, and I am confident that when they see our dedication, they will come back to support us as before.”

Lately, Vinícius Júnior has become the main target of boos from fans, facing criticism in three consecutive home games, which Mbappé considers unfair.

“Of course, it’s not Vinícius’s fault. It’s the whole team’s fault. If you’re going to boo, boo the whole team. We have to accept that—it’s our responsibility—but we shouldn’t blame just one person.”

Mbappé also addressed Jude Bellingham, who is hearing boos for the first time since joining the Bernabéu.

“No one doubts Bellingham’s quality. He has immense potential. When he’s fit, he is one of the best players in the world.”

“We accept that fans are displeased, but it shouldn’t be about blaming any single player. It’s our duty to change this situation.”
