Dominik Szoboszlai, the Hungarian national team playmaker, revealed that he is currently in contract renewal talks with Liverpool but stressed that no decisions have been made yet amid the lessons learned from several player contracts at Anfield.
On 20 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Dominik Szoboszlai, the Hungarian national team midfielder, confirmed that he is in the midst of negotiating a new contract with Liverpool but cautioned Reds fans that no decisions have yet been made regarding his future at Anfield.
Szoboszlai transferred from RB Leipzig to Liverpool for about £60 million in summer 2023, signing a long-term five-year deal, and is now entering the latter half of that contract.
The 25-year-old midfielder was a key figure in helping Liverpool win their 20th Premier League title last season and has continued to deliver outstanding performances this season.
Due to his excellent form, Liverpool wants to reward him with an improved new contract. However, recent contract talks at Anfield have not been easy, with prolonged issues involving several key players.
Both Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah nearly ran out of contracts before signing new deals, while Trent Alexander-Arnold chose to move to Real Madrid. Meanwhile, contracts for Ibrahima Konaté and Andrew Robertson remain unresolved, and they may leave the club on free transfers this summer.
When asked about the contract negotiations, Szoboszlai revealed:
“Of course, discussions are ongoing. The media might cover this extensively because that’s your job. But I can only confirm that talks are happening and no decisions have been made yet.”
“There is progress, but no conclusion yet. I will focus on doing my job every week, every training session, giving my all for the team and fans. Then we will see what the future holds.”
“I am happy here, but everyone knows how football works. That is something we all have to keep in mind.”
