Straight Talk! Roberto De Zerbi Responds After English Media Links Him to Manchester United Coaching Role

Roberto De Zerbi, Marseille's head coach, responded personally after reports emerged that Manchester United have named him as a candidate for their new manager position, revealing a stance that leaves Manchester United fans with something to consider.

On 20 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Roberto De Zerbi, the Italian coach of Olympique Marseille, candidly addressed questions about his future after English media reported that Manchester United had included him among their candidates for the club's new managerial role.

De Zerbi spoke at a press conference held at Stade Vélodrome, emphasizing clearly that all his focus remains on Marseille at this time.

“Right now, my full focus is on Marseille. I have no room in my mind to think about anything else.”

However, the 45-year-old coach did not entirely close the door on his future, acknowledging that there remain discussions to be had over the longer term.

“I feel good about this city, but in the next few months or next year, I honestly don’t know what might happen.”

This statement resembles last season, when he was linked to AC Milan but ultimately chose to continue with his current club.

Previously, De Zerbi had avoided answering questions about his future during a pre-match press conference before a game against Angers, stating that criticism from any source would not change his perspective or desire to remain with the club.

The Telegraph reported that Manchester United are considering De Zerbi as one of the candidates to become their permanent manager, replacing Rúben Amorim who has left the club. Currently, Michael Carrick serves as interim manager until the season's end.

This situation keeps De Zerbi's name closely watched, especially by 'Red Devils' fans eager for significant managerial changes in the upcoming season.
