Clear from His Own Words! Trent Plans to Return to Liverpool After Dramatic Move to Real Madrid

Clear from his own words! Trent plans to return to Liverpool after a dramatic transfer to Real Madrid.

On 27 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Trent Alexander-Arnold, the former right-back fan favorite of Liverpool, clearly confirmed his plan to return to Anfield in the future amid an uncertain situation at Real Madrid after an underwhelming first half of the season.

Spanish media reported that after Xabi Alonso was dismissed, new manager Alvaro Arbeloa advised Alexander-Arnold to seek a new club in the summer, attracting interest from several teams. However, later reports stated this was untrue and he still retained the new coach's trust.

Nonetheless, his time at the 'Los Blancos' has not met his expectations. The 27-year-old has not played since early December due to injury, and even after regaining fitness, he has not consistently secured a starting spot.

A summer transfer remains possible, but a return to Liverpool as a player seems unlikely due to the lingering pain fans feel over his departure after more than 20 years with the club. Still, Alexander-Arnold has expressed hope to return to Anfield in the future, though not necessarily as a player.

In a farewell interview on the club’s website, he said he wants to one day bring his children to Anfield to show them the stadium where he played and to share the successes he had with the team, emphasizing he will always love Liverpool, its fans, and everyone at the club, even after leaving.

He also asked fans to understand that over 20 years he gave his all to help the team win, and believes that leaving now to challenge himself elsewhere is the right decision.

Facing difficulties in Madrid, Alexander-Arnold may need to seek a fresh start soon. Previously, when he returned to Anfield for a Champions League match, some fans booed him after he came on as a substitute.

The right-back position has been a problem for Liverpool this season due to injuries to Jeremy Frimpong and Conor Bradley, affecting consistency. Still, Alexander-Arnold’s return to Merseyside seems unlikely, though not completely impossible.
