Paul Scholes lashes out! Arsenal could become the worst Premier League champions.
On 28 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Arsenal, dubbed the favorites to win this Premier League season, were harshly criticized by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes. He said if they do win, they might be the "worst team ever to claim the Premier League title."
Mikel Arteta's squad leads the table with a 4-point advantage over second-placed Manchester City, but Arsenal's recent form has faltered, earning just 2 points from their last 3 Premier League games, including a painful 2-3 loss to Manchester United.
Scholes said on the program The Good, the Bad and the Football, "If Arsenal win the league, this might be the worst team ever to do so. If you pick the season's best XI, especially the front four, none would be from Arsenal."
"Look at past champions like Liverpool—they had outstanding attackers. The only Arsenal player who might make the list is Saka, but I don't think he's been very standout; he hasn't scored or assisted much this year."
Scholes is not the only expert doubting Arsenal's championship credentials. Former star Patrick Vieira also criticized the North London club after their defeat to the Red Devils, suggesting they may still lack the mental strength required to contend for the title.
Arsenal will temporarily pause their league title chase to face Kairat in their final UEFA Champions League group match, having already secured a spot in the round of 16. Their next league fixture is an away game at Leeds United's Elland Road on Saturday, while title rivals Manchester City visit Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
