Florian Weirtz does not hide that moving to Liverpool was not as easy as expected, recounting his most challenging adjustment period.
On 30 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Florian Weirtz admitted that starting at Liverpool was not as easy as anticipated. After transferring from Leverkusen to wear the "Reds" jersey for a total fee of £116 million—the record highest transfer fee in Premier League history—with very high expectations, the reality did not go according to plan.
Weirtz revealed to BBC Sport – THE FOOTBALL INTERVIEW, "I was very excited when I moved and wanted to succeed immediately, but in reality, it wasn’t like that."
"I just had to be mentally strong and keep believing in myself that one day everything would fall into place."
"Because I told myself, you did very well in Germany; you can’t just forget how to play football when you come here, since it’s not an entirely different kind of football."
"It’s not easy to maintain confidence on the pitch all the time, but I think I handled it well, and the people around me helped me a lot."
Currently, the mental adjustment has started to pay off since the beginning of the new year. Weirtz has scored 4 goals and made 1 assist in 8 matches, marking a clear improvement compared to the first half of the season.
