Michael Carrick, the interim manager of the Red Devils, admitted that everything is still possible during the final phase of the January transfer window.
On 31 January 2026, Michael Carrick, interim manager of Manchester United, revealed that the club has not closed the door on making new signings before the January transfer window shuts this Monday, using the phrase “Never say never.”
So far, Manchester United have not signed any new players during the winter transfer window after spending over £200 million in the summer. There have been reports that the team is looking to strengthen the midfield, but no official progress has been made.
Carrick said ahead of the Premier League match against Fulham this weekend,
“We are working on it. Never say never. Many things can change in a short time. We are calm and composed with this situation. We've already shown what we can do. Now we have to see what happens in the next day or two.”
Carrick also spoke about the team's performance since taking over temporarily, having led the team to back-to-back wins against Manchester City and Arsenal, stressing that consistency is the key to success during the final stretch of the season.
“Ultimately, consistency is the key to success, and it’s very difficult to maintain that continuously.”
“It requires both physical and mental strength to handle the ups and downs of football. Right now, we are in a good period, with two solid wins in a row, and there are many big games ahead. The important thing is to keep the mindset in the right place.”
Manchester United are scheduled to host Fulham in this weekend’s Premier League match, with fans closely watching to see if the Red Devils will surprise everyone with a signing before the deadline. The 2026 winter transfer window closes on Monday, 2 February, which corresponds to 02:00 AM Thai time on Tuesday, 3 February.
