A surprise revelation names a top club that hoped to swoop in and sign "Jeremy Jakhete," but it was too late as the player had already decided to join "Liverpool."
On 3 Feb 2026 GMT+7, it was revealed that Manchester United, nicknamed the “Red Devils,” was the team aiming to beat others to secure Jeremy Jakhete, the promising French defender from Rennes of France's Ligue 1. However, they were too late as the player had already agreed to join Liverpool, their long-time rival, beforehand.
This was disclosed by Florian Plettenberg, a well-known journalist from Sky Germany, who reported that Manchester United attempted to compete for Jeremy Jakhete on Sunday evening but failed because the defender had already agreed to terms with Liverpool. This excludes Chelsea, who had approached earlier for a direct transfer, but Rennes was unwilling to sell mid-season, causing that deal to collapse and Liverpool to succeed.
Jeremy Jakhete, regarded as one of the most promising young defenders of this era, is moving from Rennes to Anfield for a total fee including options of £60 million, approximately 2.58 billion baht. He will officially join the team this summer.
