Former World Champion Criticizes Liverpools Signing of Jérémy Chaket as a Rip-Off

A former world champion has criticized Liverpool's signing of Jérémy Chaket, a defender from Rennes.

Following the news that Liverpool, the Premier League giants, have reached an agreement to acquire French defender Jérémy Chaket from Rennes for a total fee of £60 million, the player is set to officially join Liverpool after this season concludes.

Recently, Christophe Dugarry, a former French international forward who won the 1998 World Cup, expressed his opinion that Liverpool have fallen victim to Rennes' overpriced sale of Chaket.

Dugarry said, “I do not intend to make the player feel bad. Honestly, it’s not his fault, and we wish him the best because he is a good player. But credit must go to Rennes for finding a victim like Liverpool to trick with €72 million (£60 million).”

“Let them continue. English clubs tend to send tens of millions of euros anyway.”

“This is a crazy football world. Stop pretending there is any rationale behind it. There is none at all.”

Moreover, 53-year-old Dugarry predicted that Chaket will face significant pressure due to Liverpool’s decision to snatch him away from Chelsea.

“Poor young Chaket, this transfer will put a lot of pressure on him. Of course, he is a very good player, but this move comes with great expectations.”

“His performance will be viewed differently, even though he doesn’t deserve to face this kind of scrutiny.”

“Those of us who understand football shouldn’t try to justify this price by saying Liverpool has money or whatever. It’s nonsense.”

“I don’t know what’s going on. It’s nonsense. It’s not about supply and demand. It’s truly nonsense.”
