On 5 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Nemanja Vidić, the former famous Serbian defender, came forward to clearly list five things in which Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese forward of Al Nassr in the Saudi Arabian league, was superior to Wayne Rooney, the legendary English striker, during their teenage years before the latter became formidable to this day.
Nemanja Vidić said, "Many see Cristiano Ronaldo on Instagram surrounded by luxury, but all of that came from his effort. Between ages 18 and 21, he had qualities beyond Wayne Rooney: an amazing mindset, relentless hard work, discipline, avoidance of nightlife, and full dedication to everything he did. I think he deserves what he has and the success he achieved."
"Don't get me wrong, I'm not belittling Wayne Rooney. At times at Manchester United, he was on the same level as Cristiano Ronaldo. But as I said, those qualities I mentioned helped Ronaldo go further. Rooney mainly relied on talent alone without extra training or focusing on maintaining his physical condition."
