"Haaland" delivers sharp words to Liverpool and Arsenal after Man City’s thrilling away win over Liverpool, intensifying the title race.
On 9 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Erling Haaland, Manchester City's star striker, gave an interview after scoring the winning goal that led his team to a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield in the English Premier League's marquee match of Week 25 last night.
Prior to this, Erling Haaland had never scored or won at Liverpool’s Anfield in three attempts since joining Manchester City from Dortmund in 2022, until finally breaking the streak in the latest game with a 90+3 minute penalty that secured the winning goal.
After this match, Man City raised their tally to 50 points, remaining second in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Arsenal, with 13 games left, making the 2025-26 Premier League title race still wide open.
Erling Haaland shared his feelings about finally scoring and winning at Anfield, saying, "Of course, and just look at the fans’ emotions at the end of the game—it was incredible. They truly deserved this victory after supporting us week after week. Yes, they absolutely deserved to win at Anfield."
"I had never won here before, so coming here and getting the first win is amazing. As everyone knows, it’s not easy because of the history between City and Liverpool over the past decade. There’s a lot of history behind it. Certainly, it feels great."
When asked if the three points in this game were important in the title race against Arsenal, the Man City striker replied, "It’s just three points, three points, three points. No matter who you play—Tottenham or any other team. But I understand what you mean, and yes, of course, that’s true."
"We have seen that the title race isn’t over until it’s truly over. We were behind and managed to turn things around, which isn’t easy, especially at Anfield. In the end, I’m proud of the effort we put in."
