What's the plan? Klopp has made a decision regarding Liverpool's lack of a right-back for the Premier League match against Sunderland.
On 10 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Jürgen Klopp, Liverpool's manager, shared the latest team update during a press conference ahead of their Premier League away game against newly promoted Sunderland on Wednesday, 11 Feb 2026 GMT+7.
Before the match, Liverpool sits 6th in the Premier League standings with 39 points, fiercely contesting a spot in the UEFA Champions League, while Sunderland is 9th with 36 points.
Liverpool faces team selection challenges, especially at right-back, where Hungarian international midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who has been deployed in that position, is suspended following a red card in their recent 1-2 home defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.
Additionally, Liverpool will be without professional right-backs Jeremy Frimpong and Conor Bradley, both sidelined with long-term injuries, plus Dominik Szoboszlai. Joe Gomez has yet to resume training after recovering from injury.
Regarding Szoboszlai's red card and subsequent absence for the Sunderland match, Klopp said, "My feelings remain the same. As soon as I saw the red card, I was disappointed that he wouldn't be available against Sunderland."
"But on the other hand, I believe the referee did what he had to do. It's the rules, and referees must enforce them."
On the fitness of versatile defender Joe Gomez, who can also play right-back, Klopp revealed, "Joe has not trained with us yet. I expect he will join training for the first time today."
"If Joe isn't ready to start, we'll be missing four players for that position. However, Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo have also played right-back this season, so we have six different players who can fill that role."
