Who will be the new Spurs coach? Introducing six candidates to replace Thomas Frank.
On 12 Feb 2026 GMT+7, Tottenham Hotspur decided to part ways with Thomas Frank after just six months in charge, leaving the team in 16th place in the Premier League and only five points above the relegation zone.
Here are six candidates likely to take over in time for the first training session after the international break.
1. Mauricio Pochettino, 53 years old (manager of the United States national team).
The former head coach who made history leading Spurs from 2014 to 2019, guiding the team to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final (losing 0-2 to Liverpool) and finishing 2nd and 3rd in the Premier League. He remains deeply connected to the fans and has previously stated, "I want to return someday." However, this deal is complicated as he is currently committed to preparing the US national team for the World Cup as a co-host. Spurs would have to pay a record-breaking compensation fee if they want to appoint him now.
2. Roberto De Zerbi, 46 years old (currently unemployed).
He recently parted ways amicably with Marseille last Wednesday after the team was eliminated from the Champions League and suffered a 0-5 defeat to PSG. However, his profile in the Premier League is impressive from nearly two years managing Brighton, leading them to 6th place—the highest in club history—and their first-ever European qualification.
3. Andoni Iraola, 43 years old (Bournemouth manager).
A highly sought-after coach who led Bournemouth to their highest-ever points tally (56 points) last season and currently keeps the team in 9th place despite losing several key players. Iraola is known for his high-pressing, aggressive, and energetic style. His contract with Bournemouth expires at the end of this season.
4. Oliver Glasner, 51 years old (Crystal Palace manager).
He has confirmed he will leave the club after this season as he will not renew his contract. Glasner made his name by leading Palace to win the FA Cup last season against Manchester City and took the club to European competition for the first time in its history. He also won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022.
5. Marco Silva, 48 years old (Fulham manager).
The coach who led Fulham to promotion and secured their Premier League status. His contract is ending this season, and although Fulham have offered a new deal, no official extension has been signed yet. Despite past struggles with Everton, he has restored his reputation and holds honors including cup wins in Portugal and a league title in Greece.
6. Xavi Hernandez, 46 years old (currently unemployed).
The former Barcelona coach who was dismissed at the end of the 2023-24 season. He led Barcelona to the La Liga title in 2022-23. While he has a league-winning pedigree, his experience managing teams outside Spain remains limited.
If a long-term deal cannot be reached, Spurs may appoint an interim coach until season's end, such as John Heitinga, the current assistant coach with experience from Liverpool.
Additionally, Ryan Mason, who has served as interim manager twice before after the dismissals of Mourinho (2021) and Conte (2023), remains a candidate.
Harry Redknapp, aged 78, who managed Spurs from 2008 to 2012, has openly stated his willingness to return and help the team. He emphasizes restoring confidence in the talented players to bring out their best performances.
