No Questions of Fairness! FA Charges Rodri Over Unfair Referee Criticism

No questions about fairness! The FA has charged Manchester City midfielder Rodri over accusations of unfair refereeing.

On 14 Feb 2026 GMT+7, the FA charged Manchester City midfielder Rodri with misconduct after he gave an interview questioning the referee's impartiality following the 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

In that match, Manchester City took a 2-0 lead but Tottenham fought back to draw. Rodri believed there was a clear foul before Tottenham's first goal, but neither the referee nor VAR called it, raising concerns about the fairness of the officiating.

Rodri said, “I know we have won so much that people don’t want us to win anymore, but referees must be impartial. To be honest, it’s not fair to me.”

“It’s completely unfair because we worked so hard in these situations and then face this kind of decision. We still have to keep playing.”

The FA decided to charge Rodri with misconduct because his comments questioned the referee’s impartiality and credibility, which violates organizational rules.

Rodri has until 18 February GMT+7 to respond to the charge, after which the FA will decide on any sanctions. If punished, he could face several match suspensions or fines, which might affect Manchester City's title hopes in the season's final stretch.
