Sandro Tonali, Newcastle's midfielder, opened up after a narrow win over Qarabağ in the UEFA Champions League.
Sandro Tonali, the Italian international midfielder of "the Magpies" Newcastle United, admitted he was not fully satisfied with the team's second-half performance because they eased off too much. He said they should have given their all throughout the entire 90 minutes for the fans in the stadium, despite winning 3-2 at home against Qarabağ and advancing to the UEFA Champions League round of 16 with a 9-3 aggregate score.
Tonali said, "It was a great game in the first 10 minutes. I wasn't very happy with the second half because we played just to get the result, having already scored 9 goals. But we need to do more because these fans deserve 100 percent effort for all 90 minutes in every game."
"We can definitely do more, 100 percent, and we need to push every minute of the game."
"The first thing is not to concede goals. In the first 10 minutes of the second half, we let in the first goal, and it was a very stupid goal. Every time we concede, we are unhappy."
"But in the end, we are happy because we qualified for the Champions League, and we deserved this because we worked hard for it."
"Last season, we worked very hard every day, every weekend, to play in the Champions League this season. We deserve everything."
