Can we say it? Bruno reveals one disappointment after Manchester United's comeback win over Crystal Palace to rise to third place in the Premier League.
On 2 March 2026, Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United's captain and midfielder, gave an interview after the English Premier League match last night, where they narrowly came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at home, having conceded early in the 4th minute.
In the second half, Crystal Palace was reduced to 10 men when Maxence Lacroix, who scored the opening goal, was shown a red card in the 56th minute. Bruno Fernandes then scored a penalty to equalize in the 57th minute and later assisted Benjamin Sesko for the winning goal in the 65th minute.
With this result, Man Utd have 51 points, the same as Aston Villa, but have moved up to third place in the Premier League table due to a better goal difference (Man Utd +12 / Aston Villa +8). They lead fifth-place Liverpool by 3 points and have a 6-point gap over sixth-place Chelsea.
This gives Man Utd a strong chance to secure a ticket back to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season, after failing to qualify for any European competition this season, finishing 15th in the Premier League and only reaching the Europa League final last season.
This season, they were quickly knocked out of both domestic cup competitions (Carabao Cup in round 2 and FA Cup in round 3), leaving Man Utd with fewer midweek games and only Premier League fixtures. Bruno Fernandes admitted he is disappointed by having too few games to play.
The Manchester United captain said, "It's a big deal, because as you know, we've struggled this season playing just one game a week, at least for me."
"And I'm quite sure that players who played less also struggled, because with fewer games, rotating players becomes harder. I think everyone wants chances to play, but when you have only one game per week, it's harder for the manager to make changes and give many opportunities."
"When you play in Europe, with the number of games you have to play, it's very important for the team to understand that everyone is important at every moment of the season. That remains true, but with more games, you get more chances to play."
"And the most important thing is being in the best competition in the world, which is the UEFA Champions League, and trying to win the trophy for a club with a great history."
