Real Madrid Loses at Home to Getafe, Both Teams Receive One Red Card Each, Impacting La Liga Title Race

Last night's result: Real Madrid lost at home to Getafe, each side receiving one red card, shaking up the La Liga title race.

On 3 Mar 2026 GMT+7, in the 26th round of Spain's 2025-26 La Liga season, second-placed Real Madrid with 60 points hosted 14th-placed Getafe, who had 29 points, at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

In the first half, at the 13th minute, Real Madrid nearly scored when Vinicius Junior broke into the penalty area but shot narrowly wide of the near post, much to their frustration.

At the 39th minute, visiting Getafe surprised by taking the lead 1-0 after Real Madrid failed to clear the ball, which fell to Martin Satriano who volleyed it beautifully into the near post.

In the second half, at the 75th minute, Real Madrid almost equalized from a corner when Antonio Rudiger headed ahead of the goalkeeper, but the ball went just past the goal, while Dean Hausen’s follow-up at the far post fell short.

In injury time at 90+5 minutes, Real Madrid substitute Franco Mastantuono was shown a red card for saying something inappropriate to the referee. Shortly after, Getafe substitute Adrian Liso received a second yellow card, turning into a red, for kicking the ball away in front of the referee who had already stopped play.

The match ended with Real Madrid losing 0-1 at home, remaining at 60 points in second place, still four points behind league leaders Barcelona after 26 matches. Getafe gained 3 points to reach 32, climbing to 11th place.
