Maicon moved to Thailand at just 2 years old with his father, Douglas Cardoso, a former Brazilian striker who came to play in the Thai League. He began with Buriram PEA before making a name at Ratchaburi FC, so Maicon grew up surrounded by the football atmosphere in Ratchaburi from a very young age.
He lived and studied in Thailand at Bangkok Christian College while starting his football journey with Ratchaburi's academy. He then joined the Sport Thai-Bavaria Academy, a youth development program partnered with Bayern Munich, which became a key gateway for him to trial in Germany.
