Manchester United, the "Red Devils," is reportedly in the running to acquire a prolific goal scorer to reinforce their attacking lineup.
French media outlet L’Équipe reported that Olympique Marseille, a strong Ligue 1 club, is considering letting go of prolific striker Mason Greenwood this summer, with his transfer value estimated at as high as 80 million euros.
Greenwood transferred from Manchester United to Marseille for 26 million euros plus a 5 million euro bonus. The deal includes a clause entitling the "Red Devils" to receive 50% of any future transfer fee for Greenwood.
The current Marseille squad was built under Roberto De Zerbi’s style, but his departure last month has created uncertainty about the futures of several players, including Greenwood, who has scored 25 goals and made 8 assists in 37 matches this season.
Marseille may need to sell several key players this summer regardless of whether they qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Greenwood is viewed as the club’s most valuable asset likely to generate funds for squad improvements, and he has not ruled out returning to Manchester United if the club’s board opens the door.
Greenwood, who is also attracting interest from Saudi league clubs, is not the only Marseille player linked with a move. Geronimo Rulli and Geoffrey Kondogbia will see their contracts expire at season's end with no renewal talks underway.
Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears unlikely to renew his contract, which expires in 2027, and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is also considered a potential transfer candidate.
