Michael Owen, the former famous striker, revealed the dark horse team with a chance to win this season's UEFA Champions League.
Michael Owen, former England international striker turned football analyst, believes that "The Reds" Liverpool are good enough to win this season's UEFA Champions League but must show more consistent form. Without that factor, it could become a major obstacle in the knockout rounds.
Although Liverpool cannot defend their Premier League title this season, their performance in European competition has still taken them to the quarterfinals. However, Owen believes their fluctuating form could be detrimental when facing top-level opponents in the later stages. Liverpool are scheduled to meet Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, which will test their ability at the highest level.
Owen said, "Do I think they can win the UEFA Champions League? I think their team is good enough to win it, but I also think they are a bit too inconsistent."
"And a single slip-up against a strong team could see you eliminated. So I have to say I’m somewhat concerned about Liverpool winning any trophies this season."
"They also drew a tough opponent in the FA Cup (Manchester City). The good news for Liverpool right now is that Chelsea are not playing well, and Aston Villa’s form has dipped slightly. There will be five teams qualifying for next season's Champions League."
