Senegal Football Federation Appeals to Restore AFCON 2025 Championship After Morocco Awarded Title

The Senegal Football Federation has appealed the decision to restore its status as the 2025 AFCON champion after a ruling awarded the title to Morocco.

On 26 Mar 2026 GMT+7, the Senegal Football Federation appealed to reinstate their status as winners of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) awarded the championship to host nation Morocco. CAF ruled that Senegal lost 3-0 in the final due to a walkout protest against the referee.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) confirmed that the Senegal Football Federation filed an appeal against CAF's decision naming Morocco as the 2025 AFCON champions. The appeal, registered on 25 Mar 2026 GMT+7, seeks to overturn CAF's ruling and reinstate Senegal Football Federation (FSF) as the rightful winners of the tournament.

Previously, Senegal had symbolically sent the 2025 African Cup of Nations trophy to the military for safekeeping. This act was a form of protest, as Senegal did not accept the ruling and refused to return the trophy.
