Ligue 1! Match Rescheduled to Favor PSG Before UCL Clash with Liverpool

Breaking news from Ligue 1! The league has postponed a match to favor Paris Saint-Germain ahead of their Champions League clash with Liverpool, despite fierce objections from rivals who claim it disadvantages them in the title race.

On 26 Mar 2026 GMT+7, after Paris Saint-Germain requested to postpone their Ligue 1 fixture for freshness ahead of their meeting with "The Reds" Liverpool, rival club Lens strongly opposed the move, seeing it as directly affecting the 2025-26 Ligue 1 title race. Currently, PSG lead the table with 60 points from 26 matches, while Lens trail by just one point but have played one more game.

Recently, the French Professional Football League (LFP) approved PSG's request to postpone their Ligue 1 match against Lens, originally scheduled for 11 April, to allow the team to rest and fully prepare before their away game against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

This decision gives PSG at least a full week’s rest between the two legs, with the first leg at home against Liverpool on 8 April, followed by the second leg at Anfield on 14 April.

Conversely, Liverpool face a demanding schedule, playing Manchester City just four days before the first leg and Fulham only three days before the second leg.

Notably, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of Paris Saint-Germain, also serves on the executive board of the French Professional Football League (LFP) and is chairman of beIN Sports, the broadcaster holding the Ligue 1 rights.

Previously, PSG had successfully requested to postpone their Ligue 1 match against Nantes to gain extra recovery time before their UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg away at Chelsea. That strategy paid off as PSG won 3-0 on the road and advanced with an 8-2 aggregate before facing Liverpool in the quarterfinals.
