"The Red Devils" Manchester United have been reported to have chosen their number one target for squad reinforcement this summer.
The Daily Mail, a prominent British media outlet, reported that "The Red Devils," Manchester United, the Premier League giant, have selected Sandro Tonali, the Italian international midfielder from "The Magpies" Newcastle United, as their top midfield target for this summer's transfer window.
Manchester United values him more highly than players like Elliott Anderson of Nottingham Forest or Adam Worthington of Crystal Palace, and it is expected that the Red Devils will submit an official offer to sign Tonali after the 2025-26 season ends.
The report further states that Bruno Fernandes, Manchester United’s captain and midfielder, also supports the club’s plan to make an offer for Tonali this summer, seeing him as having all the qualities needed to be a Red Devil, including commitment, dedication, and outstanding skills in both scoring and assisting.
However, acquiring Tonali from Newcastle will require a huge financial outlay, as he has three years left on his contract with Newcastle, plus an option to extend for another 12 months.
Newcastle may demand around €90 million for Tonali this summer, which could rule out Serie A clubs interested in him, including Juventus, making Manchester United the frontrunner in this deal due to their stronger financial resources and their near certainty of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Meanwhile, Tonali’s current club, Newcastle, appears likely to miss out on European football next season, as they currently sit 12th in the Premier League with only seven league matches remaining.
