Tuchel Candidly Criticizes Performance of Two England Players

Thomas Tuchel, head coach of the England national team, spoke frankly about two players after their performance fell short in the latest match.

Thomas Tuchel, manager of the England national team, admitted that Callum Palmer and Phil Foden, two attackers from Chelsea and Manchester City respectively, did not perform well enough.

Palmer was involved in the play that led to conceding a goal in the friendly match where England lost 0-1 at home to Japan, while Foden had less ball contact than any other starting England player in that game.

The home fans booed at both halftime and full time, while Japan secured their first victory over England thanks to a goal from Kaoru Mitoma.
When asked about Palmer and Foden's performances, Tuchel said, "I'm not usually one to focus on individual player performances, but if we field attacking players, we expect attacking play—creativity, dribbling, shooting, and passing to teammates to score. Clearly, they did not deliver enough."

"We made it difficult for ourselves to find space and chances. We played against a team defending deep in a 5-4-1 formation. We did not use the flanks sufficiently, and our attackers failed to make a difference in one-on-one situations."

"When facing that kind of tactic, you don't gain advantage simply through passing; it has to come from winning individual duels."
