Todays Result: Man City Rout Liverpool to Reach FA Cup Semifinals, Eyeing Treble

Today's result: Man City decisively beat Liverpool to reach the FA Cup semifinals, keeping their treble hopes alive.

On 4 Apr 2026 GMT+7, the 2025-2026 FA Cup quarterfinals saw second-placed Premier League club Manchester City host fifth-placed Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium, with kickoff at 18:45.

Man City, seven-time FA Cup champions, remain in the hunt for three trophies this season, while Liverpool, aiming for two titles, have won this cup eight times before.

In the 37th minute of the first half, Man City earned a penalty after Nico O'Reilly was fouled by Virgil van Dijk in the box. Erling Haaland converted the spot-kick, deceiving goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to put City ahead 1-0 in the 39th minute.

In added time of the first half at 45+2, the "Sky Blues" extended their lead to 2-0. Antoine Semenyo crossed from the right byline, and Haaland rose to head the ball past Ibrahima Konaté into the corner.

Early in the second half, at the 50th minute, Man City made it 3-0. Rayan Cherki intercepted in midfield and assisted Semenyo, who chipped the ball skillfully over Mamardashvili.

At the 54th minute, Liverpool nearly conceded a fourth when Mamardashvili was caught off his line. Semenyo attempted a long-range shot from midfield, but the ball hit the crossbar, denying City another goal.

In the 57th minute, Man City scored their fourth goal. Jérémy Doku played a through ball past the defense to O'Reilly, who crossed to Haaland. Haaland's shot hit the crossbar and went in, completing his hat-trick.

At the 64th minute, Liverpool won a penalty after Hugo Ekitike was fouled by Matheus Nunes in the box. However, Mohamed Salah's penalty was saved by James Trafford, denying Liverpool a goal.

The match ended with Man City winning 4-0, advancing to the FA Cup semifinals for the eighth consecutive year. They remain contenders for the Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup titles. Liverpool are out of the FA Cup but still aim to win the UEFA Champions League and secure a UCL spot via the Premier League.
