Scandal: Santos President Marcelo Teixeira Accused of Misuse of Power and Corruption

Marcelo Teixeira, president of Santos Football Club, has been heavily exposed for abusing his authority and engaging in corruption.

On 9 Apr 2026 GMT+7, a major scandal rocked the football world as Marcelo Teixeira, president of the renowned Brazilian league club Santos, was exposed for misuse of power and corruption.

Currently, Santos FC is facing a legal dispute over a payment of £18 million, approximately 774 million baht, to NR Sports, an image rights company managed by Neymar's father. Prosecutors and club members have officially filed a petition to remove Marcelo Teixeira from his position as club president after discovering a secretly amended contract signed on 30 December.

Prosecutors and club members state that Marcelo Teixeira’s actions are illegal as they create unfair financial burdens directly affecting the club if a change in club president occurs, constituting a direct violation of internal regulations. Previously, the club’s overall debt surged to £146 million, about 6.28 billion baht, yet the board still approved the 2025 financial budget with 109 votes in favor.

Additionally, supporters had previously proposed using the Meninos da Vila training ground, a historic club site, as legal collateral for debt repayment, which caused significant dissatisfaction among fans.
