Arsenal Draws with Sporting Lisbon in UCL Quarterfinal Second Leg, Advances to Semi-finals for Second Consecutive Year

Last night's result: Arsenal drew with Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal second leg, advancing to the semi-finals for the second year in a row.

On 16 April 2026 GMT+7, in the UEFA Champions League 2025-26 quarterfinal second leg, Premier League leaders Arsenal hosted Sporting Lisbon, the runners-up of Portugal's top division, at Emirates Stadium.

The "Gunners" Arsenal held the advantage as they came off a 1-0 away win against Sporting Lisbon at Estádio José Alvalade last week.

In the first half, both teams competed evenly. Sporting Lisbon nearly took the lead when Maximiliano Araújo advanced on the left, crossing to Jérémy Catamo, who volleyed sharply but the ball struck the post, keeping the score 0-0.

In the second half, Arsenal's coach Mikel Arteta substituted former Sporting Lisbon striker Víctor Jéqueres for Kai Havertz, who scored the decisive goal in the first leg, in the 56th minute. Later, Max Dowman replaced Noni Madueke, who was injured, in the 63rd minute.

In the remaining time, Sporting Lisbon failed to score, and the match ended 0-0. The "Gunners" won 1-0 on aggregate, advancing to the semi-finals for the second consecutive year, keeping their hopes alive for the club's first UCL title and a chance at two trophies this season.
