Cabinet Approves 1.3 Billion Baht Budget to Purchase 2026 World Cup Broadcasting Rights

Thais rejoice as the Cabinet passes a resolution approving a 1.3 billion baht budget to purchase the broadcasting rights for the 2026 World Cup.

On 12 May 2026, during the latest Cabinet meeting, the government discussed an important agenda regarding the purchase of the 2026 World Cup broadcasting rights from FIFA. The decision was urgent to meet a tight deadline.

The Cabinet recently approved a 1.3 billion baht budget for the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission to purchase the 2026 World Cup broadcast rights, though they may need to involve the private sector to co-invest in advertising.

The 2026 World Cup will take place from 11 June to 19 July, hosted jointly by three countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
