Uncertainty Remains as Anutin Keeps Details Under Wraps on Live Broadcast of 2026 World Cup

The Prime Minister revealed that the Cabinet has acknowledged the live broadcast of the 2026 World Cup. He instructed the Public Relations Department to coordinate with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), requesting to withhold details but stressed that they will do their best.

On 12 May 2026 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, stated that the Cabinet has acknowledged the live broadcast plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The government will strive to do its best, assigning the Public Relations Department to collaborate with the NBTC to make it happen as successfully as in previous occasions.

When reporters asked whether the government would purchase the broadcast rights itself or grant a concession to private companies, the Prime Minister said that the responsible parties would handle the details.

The Prime Minister nodded and replied, “It must be free,” when asked if the public would be able to watch the World Cup broadcasts free of charge.

However, Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that the Cabinet meeting did not approve any budget for the World Cup live broadcast. The decision was only to acknowledge and assign the Public Relations Department to coordinate the live broadcast of the 2026 World Cup matches.
