The Prime Minister revealed that the Cabinet has acknowledged the live broadcast plans for the 2026 World Cup and has instructed the Public Relations Department to coordinate with the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), requesting to withhold details but emphasizing they will do their best.
On 12 May 2026 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, stated that the Cabinet has been informed about the live broadcast of the FIFA World Cup 2026. The government will strive to do its best, with the Public Relations Department coordinating closely with the NBTC to make the broadcast happen as in previous events.
When asked whether the government would purchase the broadcasting rights itself or grant a concession to a private company, the Prime Minister said that the responsible parties would handle the details.
The Prime Minister nodded and replied, “It must be free,” when asked if the public would be able to watch the World Cup free of charge.
However, Rachada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, clarified that the Cabinet meeting did not approve any budget for the World Cup live broadcast. It only acknowledged the Public Relations Department’s role in coordinating the live broadcast of the 2026 World Cup matches.
