Problem solved: Liverpool is targeting the "8-time champion" player, with a transfer fee of just £22 million.
On 18 May 2026 GMT+7, Paul Joyce, a Liverpool correspondent from The Times, a leading English media outlet, and Matteo Moretto, a well-known Italian transfer market journalist, both reported that Liverpool, the famous Premier League club, is moving forward to sign Denzel Dumfries to address their right-back issues.
Liverpool has faced problems in this position after selling Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid. Although they acquired Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, injuries have been a persistent issue, as has been the case with Conor Bradley, who has been mostly sidelined due to injury.
As a result, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has often had to shift two midfielders—Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones—to cover the right-back position. Meanwhile, Joe Gomez has also struggled with recurring injuries.
Recently, both Paul Joyce and Matteo Moretto reported that Liverpool has renewed inquiries about the possibility of signing Denzel Dumfries, the Dutch national team right-back from Inter Milan, whom they have been tracking since January.
Paul Joyce also noted that 30-year-old Denzel Dumfries, whose contract with Inter Milan runs until 2028, has a release clause of around €25 million (approximately £22 million). This has attracted Liverpool and several Premier League clubs to consider using this clause to sign him.
Denzel Dumfries is recognized as a strong right-back known for his physical strength, speed, and aggressive attacking runs. He has significant experience, having been with Inter Milan since 2021 and winning eight trophies: two Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia, and three Italian Super Cups.
