Maresca Puts Man City in Hot Water, Facing Possible Legal Action if Appointed as Peps Successor

"Maresca" causes trouble for "Man City," potentially facing legal action if appointed as the new manager replacing "Pep".

On 19 May 2026 GMT+7, The Telegraph, a leading UK media outlet, reported that Italian coach Enzo Maresca is rumored to be preparing to succeed Manchester City's manager Pep Guardiola, who plans to leave the club after this season.

The Daily Mail revealed that Enzo Maresca, unemployed since January after parting ways with Chelsea, has agreed to a three-year contract with Man City and is set to take over from Pep Guardiola this summer.

Reports state that Enzo Maresca has been in talks with Man City about replacing Pep Guardiola for some time, but there has been no official confirmation or denial from the "Sky Blues" club.

However, The Telegraph recently reported that Chelsea intends to demand compensation from Man City based on the terms of Maresca's departure from the "Blues," threatening to reveal details from the months leading up to the transfer.

Sources also indicate that Chelsea will file a formal complaint with the Premier League to take action against Man City. It is reported that Enzo Maresca informed Chelsea's owner about his discussions with the "Sky Blues" before their separation.

Enzo Maresca did not attend the scheduled post-match press conference after Chelsea's 2-2 home draw against Bournemouth on 30 December, shortly before parting ways with the "Blues" days later. Reports say the London club was unhappy with his early departure, which affected the team's season.

Chelsea is expected to initiate legal proceedings immediately if Man City officially announces Enzo Maresca's appointment.
