Arsenal and Manchester United: Two Premier League Powerhouses from the 90s to Early 2000s and Arsenals 22-Year Title Drought Break

Arsenal and Manchester United: two Premier League giants from the 1990s to the early 2000s, leading to Arsenal ending a 22-year title drought.

The "Gunners" Arsenal and the "Red Devils" Manchester United were the two main contenders for the English Premier League title during the 1990s and early 2000s, frequently alternating as champions. From the 1992-93 season through 2003-04, only Blackburn Rovers interrupted their dominance by winning the league once; all other titles during this period were claimed by these two clubs.

Few would have believed that after both Arsène Wenger, the French manager, and Sir Alex Ferguson, the Scottish manager, left Arsenal and Manchester United respectively, neither team would win the Premier League again for a significant period.

Until recently, when Arsenal finally broke their 22-year wait to claim the 2025-26 Premier League title, ending a long drought since their last league win—an unbeaten season in 2003-04. Meanwhile, Manchester United have not won the league for 13 years, their last title coming in the 2012-13 season, which was also Sir Alex Ferguson's final season as manager.
