Arteta Poised for Long-Awaited Good News After Leading Arsenal to First Premier League Title in 22 Years

Arsenal is preparing to reward Mikel Arteta’s achievements by offering him a new contract with a significantly increased salary after leading the team to their first Premier League title in 22 years.

On 21 May 2026, after Mikel Arteta made history by leading the “Gunners” Arsenal to their first Premier League championship in 22 years, following Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth last Tuesday night.

The Guardian reported that Arteta’s current contract expires in the summer of next year (2027), with a value of around £15 million per year (including Champions League bonuses), but the club is now ready to offer improved terms.

Other international media reported that Arteta could receive a salary close to Diego Simeone, the Atletico Madrid manager, who is among the highest-paid managers worldwide, earning about £26 million per year (1.1 billion baht).

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the plan to extend Arteta’s contract was decided back in March, independent of the late-season results, and revealed that Arteta is passionate about the project and vision, looking forward to negotiations with Arsenal.

Besides the manager’s contract, Arsenal is also preparing for the summer transfer market. The Guardian reported that Julian Alvarez, a former Manchester City star, is a potential reinforcement target for the “Gunners.”

Arteta is the second youngest manager to win the Premier League, after Jose Mourinho did so with Chelsea in 2004. Meanwhile, Arsenal still has the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain later this month, and if successful, it would be the club’s first-ever season winning both the league and the Champions League simultaneously.
