Liverpool Draws with Brentford, Bids Farewell to Salah, Finishes Top 5 in Premier League and Advances to UCL

Last night's match ended in a 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Brentford, marking Mohamed Salah's farewell as Liverpool secured a top 5 finish in the Premier League and qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

On 25 May 2026 GMT+7, the final match of the 2025-26 English Premier League season took place. Liverpool, ranked 5th with 59 points, hosted Brentford, ranked 9th with 52 points, at Anfield Stadium.

Liverpool needed just one point to guarantee a top 5 finish and secure a spot in next season's UEFA Champions League. Brentford required a full three points to aim for 7th place and a Europa League spot. This match also marked the final game for Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson as Liverpool players.

In the first half, both teams came close to scoring. At the 43rd minute, Brentford launched a long ball to Kevin Schade, who took a close-range shot, but Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker made a quick and narrow save.

Soon after, Liverpool counterattacked with Dominik Szoboszlai crossing to Cody Gakpo, who headed the ball powerfully but it was blocked by Michael Kayode standing in front of the goal, sending the ball out for a corner. The first half ended goalless at 0-0.

In the second half, at the 58th minute, Liverpool took a 1-0 lead on a counterattack. Cody Gakpo passed to Mohamed Salah, who sprinted down the right flank, dribbled into the box, and delivered a low cross to Curtis Jones, who scored from close range.

However, at the 64th minute, Brentford quickly equalized. Kean Lewis-Potter's shot deflected off Curtis Jones, reaching Kevin Schade, who headed the ball past Alisson Becker to level the score at 1-1.

At the 74th minute, Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp substituted Mohamed Salah for Jeremy Frimpong, marking Salah's final moments at Anfield after nine years with the club.

At the 83rd minute, Andrew Robertson was also substituted, with Milos Kerkez coming on as his successor in the left-back position.

In stoppage time at the 90+6th minute, Liverpool nearly scored the winning goal when Dominik Szoboszlai passed to Florian Wirtz for a close-range shot, but Brentford goalkeeper Kevin Kelleher made a narrow save, sending the ball out for a corner.

The match ended in a 1-1 draw. Liverpool finished the season fifth with 60 points, securing qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League. Brentford remained on 52 points and narrowly missed out on a Europa League spot.
