Alan Shearer, the Newcastle legend, shared his opinion after Barcelona spent 80 million euros to sign Anthony Gordon.
Alan Shearer, former legendary striker of the "Magpies" Newcastle United, admitted he was surprised that "the Blaugrana" Barcelona paid 80 million euros (including bonuses) to acquire Anthony Gordon, the English winger from Newcastle United. He confirmed he has no regrets about Gordon choosing to leave St James' Park and wished him success on his new career path.
Shearer said, "I was surprised that Barcelona spent 80 million euros (including bonuses) on Gordon because I didn't think Barcelona had that much money. At first, I thought Gordon would go to Bayern Munich because there were many rumors about the German club, but Barcelona came in with an offer at the end. Yes, I was quite surprised they could gather such a large amount, even though they don't have to pay it all at once, as it is spread over the contract period."
"I wish Anthony Gordon good luck. I have no regrets about him leaving because no player is bigger than the club. You should thank him for what he has done for us. I wish him well. I have no issues."
"I think Newcastle learned lessons from the case of Isak and will not allow that situation to happen again. I mean, it was clear Anthony Gordon wanted to move, so I guess Newcastle’s thinking was that if that’s the case, we should get the best possible price for him. Then we can start planning and avoid the same situation from happening again."
"I think it’s a good deal for both sides—both Gordon and Newcastle—because it’s clear he wanted to move, and it’s the right deal and timing for Newcastle, as they have made a good profit from him."
