Carragher Comments on Arsenal After Losing to PSG, Missing Out on 2025-26 UCL Title with a Striking Final Remark

Jamie Carragher spoke about Arsenal after their loss to Paris Saint-Germain, missing out on the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League title, delivering a striking final remark.

On 31 May 2026, football expert Jamie Carragher commented on Arsenal, the Premier League giants led by Mikel Arteta, following their 3-4 penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain after a 1-1 draw, which saw them narrowly miss out on the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League title.

Jamie Carragher expressed, "This might be the worst performance I've ever seen in a UEFA Champions League final. To be honest, Arsenal defended deeply throughout the 90 minutes, and even more so during the 30 minutes of extra time. I wanted to see some courage from them, but their plan was very clear: survive each moment and hope David Raya would save penalties to lead them to victory."

"This is the UEFA Champions League final, not a relegation battle. You can't spend two hours defending deep in your own penalty area and expect praise for a brilliant strategy. Mikel Arteta was completely wrong. Paris Saint-Germain looked like they wanted to win the title, while Arsenal seemed only to try not to lose. If your entire game plan is to reach penalties because you have a good goalkeeper, you've already handed control of the final to your opponent. For me, this was one of the worst final performances in the history of the competition."
