Liverpool has made a decision regarding their new manager to replace Klopp, with fans eagerly anticipating positive news soon.
On 1 June 2026 GMT+7, BBC Sport and The Guardian, two leading UK media outlets, both reported that Liverpool, the prominent Premier League club, has made a decision on appointing a new manager to replace Arne Slot, who was recently dismissed on Saturday, 30 May.
Both sources indicate that Liverpool will hold official talks with Andoni Iraola, former Bournemouth manager, within this week, hoping to secure their successor before the 2026 World Cup kicks off on 11 June.
Liverpool plans to act swiftly in their search for a new manager and intends to engage with their preferred candidate at the earliest opportunity. Initial contact has been made with Andoni Iraola’s team, with formal negotiations expected in the coming days.
Although Liverpool may also inquire about Sebastian Hoeness (Stuttgart) and Pierre Sacz (Lens), Andoni Iraola remains the top choice due to Sporting Director Richard Hughes’ existing relationship with the Spanish coach from when he brought Iraola to Bournemouth in 2023.
Liverpool aims to finalize talks with Andoni Iraola as soon as possible because Crystal Palace, AC Milan, and Bayer Leverkusen have also approached the 43-year-old coach following his departure from Bournemouth, where he led the team to a sixth-place Premier League finish and secured the club’s first Europa League qualification.
This situation compels Liverpool to move quickly and complete the appointment process before the 2026 World Cup begins on 11 June, allowing the new manager sufficient time to prepare before leading the team into the new season.
Moreover, Andoni Iraola is a cost-effective option for Liverpool, as he is out of contract with Bournemouth and would not require a compensation fee, unlike Sebastian Hoeness and Pierre Sacz, who are still under contract.
