Liverpool is moving quickly with a chance to secure their first champion-level player after Andoni Iraola agreed to become the new manager.
On 3 June 2026, DaveOCKOP, a well-known Liverpool-focused media outlet, reported that Liverpool, the renowned Premier League club, has the opportunity to sign their first player under the era of new prospective manager Andoni Iraola.
Sources revealed that Liverpool has received an offer to sign Illa Zabarnyi, the Ukrainian international defender from Paris Saint-Germain, the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League winners, to replace Ibrahima Konaté, who is set to leave on a free transfer to Real Madrid after his contract expires.
The report states that the offer to acquire Illa Zabarnyi arose because the player shares the same agent as Curtis Jones, who is currently negotiating a transfer to Inter Milan, giving Liverpool an opportunity to negotiate with the Ukrainian defender's agent.
DaveOCKOP disclosed, "While discussions about Curtis Jones' future are ongoing, it has been reported that an offer has also been made to Liverpool."
"Liverpool has been contacted regarding a potential signing of Illa Zabarnyi, which could be an attractive proposal for the Reds. Negotiations are currently exploratory. The club has already received this offer and initial talks have taken place."
"It is believed that Zabarnyi is not very happy living in the French capital, and Paris Saint-Germain is willing to sell if a suitable offer is made."
Illa Zabarnyi is highly likely to join Liverpool if Andoni Iraola is appointed as the new manager to replace Arne Slot, after previously working together at Bournemouth from 2023 to 2025 before Zabarnyi moved to PSG last season, where he has been a backup to Marquinhos and William Pacho.
