Manchester United Finalizes Decision on Marcus Rashford After Barcelona Loan Ends

Manchester United has finalized their decision regarding Marcus Rashford after his loan contract with Barcelona expired.

On 3 June 2026 GMT+7, the Daily Mail, a prominent British media outlet, reported that Manchester United, currently third in the English Premier League, has made a decision about Marcus Rashford's future in this summer's transfer market following the end of his loan with Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona.

Barcelona still want to keep Marcus Rashford for the next season after his impressive performances caught the eye of coach Hansi Flick. Rashford played 49 matches across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists, helping the team win both the La Liga title and the Spanish Super Cup.

However, the problem lies in Barcelona's reluctance to pay the £26 million transfer fee stipulated in the buyout clause. Initially, they proposed another one-year loan, but Manchester United rejected this offer, despite having recently signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a total fee of £69.3 million.

Recently, sources indicated that while Barcelona are willing to sign Marcus Rashford, they want to pay only half the agreed fee (£13 million). This has caused Manchester United to lose patience as they seek a resolution before Michael Carrick, the new permanent manager, begins preparing the squad for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, The Mirror further reported that Manchester United is ready to end negotiations with Barcelona and is open to selling Marcus Rashford to other interested clubs instead.

Initially, Manchester United may have Rashford return to report for pre-season training after the 2026 World Cup, alongside goalkeeper André Onana, whose loan with Trabzonspor has also expired.

Currently, several clubs are interested in Marcus Rashford, including Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Aston Villa, as well as German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. However, a major obstacle is Rashford's weekly wage of £300,000 at Manchester United.
