Liverpool Moves Quickly to Contact New Player, Preparing First Signing for Iraola

Liverpool has moved swiftly to contact a new player, preparing their first signing for Iraola.

On 5 June 2026 GMT+7, David Ornstein, a trusted journalist from The Athletic, reported that Liverpool, the prominent Premier League club, has already started working on their first signing under new manager Andoni Iraola.

Ornstein revealed that Liverpool has contacted RB Leipzig to expedite the signing of Yann Diomandé, a rising winger from the Ivory Coast national team for the 2026 World Cup, who has long been viewed as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah.

Ornstein also stated clearly that Liverpool currently holds the advantage in transfer negotiations, despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain, the two-time defending UEFA Champions League winners.

However, Leipzig has consistently maintained that 19-year-old Yann Diomandé is not for sale unless an offer exceeding €130 million (£112.4 million) is made.

Liverpool may have to consider carefully before pursuing Yann Diomandé, as they spent £450 million on transfers last summer and still plan to acquire players in other positions during this transfer window.

Meanwhile, Yann Diomandé recently expressed during Ivory Coast national team training that he and his father are fans of PSG, and it would be delightful to join them. It remains to be seen whether Liverpool will continue pursuing this deal or shift their focus elsewhere.
