Long-awaited, Manchester United announces the latest good news, ready to develop the club to world-class standards.
On 22 June 2026, Manchester United, the renowned Premier League club, announced it has acquired most of the land needed to build a new £2 billion stadium to replace the current Old Trafford, after announcing this project on 11 March 2025.
The land is a triangular 25-acre plot located about 350 meters northwest of Old Trafford, situated between Wharfside Way, Europa Way, and John Gilbert Way.
This area currently houses business and warehouse facilities, including the TeamSport go-kart track and a vehicle service center. Although the club is still securing the remaining land, insiders indicate no expected problems or obstacles.
Previously, Manchester United negotiated with Freightliner for the purchase of land behind Old Trafford currently used as a freight depot, but ultimately abandoned the plan due to failure to reach an agreement, with a valuation gap as high as £360 million at one point.
Sources said Manchester United acted in an organized and strategic manner, enabling them to efficiently reach this new agreement at market value. The club believes this approach is best for building the new stadium and for the overall regeneration and development of the Old Trafford area.
Manchester United will now proceed to design stages with fan involvement and hopes to submit the project for approval soon for a 100,000-seat stadium, envisioned as the "Wembley of the North."
