Romano himself reports that Klopp has made his decision about returning to coaching after leaving Liverpool two years ago.
On 2 July 2026 GMT+7, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, along with Ben Jacobs from Talksport and the UK's Telegraph, all reported that Jürgen Klopp, former Liverpool manager in the English Premier League, is ready to take on a new coaching role.
Jürgen Klopp has been away from coaching for two years after transitioning to become the Global Head of Football at Red Bull, overseeing its football clubs. Recently, he has been linked to the German national team coaching position after their penalty shootout loss to Paraguay, which eliminated them in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.
Fabrizio Romano and Ben Jacobs stated, "Jürgen Klopp is open to the opportunity of becoming the next head coach of the German national team. Although Julian Nagelsmann wishes to continue, the German Football Association will make a decision in the coming weeks."
"Klopp himself is interested in this role. If the association approaches him later, it is highly likely that he will return to coaching after leaving Liverpool two years ago."
Meanwhile, the Telegraph reported, "Klopp has long been the dream choice for most German fans, and it appears the 59-year-old coach is now ready to embrace this challenge."
"The former Liverpool manager views leading a team in the World Cup as one of his ultimate goals, something he has not yet accomplished, especially with the 2030 tournament in mind. However, the Euro 2028 tournament, to be held in the UK and Ireland, could also be a significant factor attracting him."
"Having lived and worked in England for nearly a decade, any negotiations would likely require flexible working conditions."
"Currently serving as Global Head of Football at Red Bull, Klopp likely does not want to return to the demanding routine of scouting players every weekend."
"Nevertheless, confidence is growing that now is the perfect time for him to take a role in restoring the German national team’s status as a world-class contender, after years of underperformance."
